Antithrombotic therapy in coronary artery disease.
Antithrombotic therapy has assumed a central role in the therapy of the acute coronary syndromes and chronic coronary artery disease. The theoretical rationale for antithrombotic therapy, and the established and evolving roles of antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants in coronary disease are reviewed. Emphasis is focused on new antithrombotic agents and novel combinations of existing agents.
متن کاملAntithrombotic therapy in anticoagulated patients with atrial fibrillation presenting with acute coronary syndromes and/or undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention/stenting.
The management of antithrombotic therapy in atrial fibrillation patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome and/or undergoing percutaneous coronary inter vention/stenting cannot be done according to a regimented common protocol, and stroke and bleeding risk stratification schema should be employed to individualize treatment options. A delicate balance is needed between the prevention of th...

Antithrombotic therapy is an essential part of the management of the full spectrum of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Both antiplatelets and anticoagulants seem to be necessary in the management of ACS (Figures 1 and 2), although the exact proportion of antithrombotic effect that each drug and class should ideally provide remains a matter of ongoing study. As a general principle, more potent an...
متن کاملManagement of antithrombotic therapy in atrial fibrillation patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome and/or undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention/ stenting.
There remains uncertainty over optimal antithrombotic management strategy for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) presenting with an acute coronary syndrome and/or undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention/stenting. Clinicians need to balance the risk of stroke and thromboembolism against the risk of recurrent cardiac ischaemia and/or stent thrombosis, and the risk of bleeding. This cons...
متن کاملEfficacy and safety of quadruple therapy including tirofiban in the treatment of Chinese NSTE-ACS patients failing to receive timely percutaneous coronary intervention
Background Although it has been shown to be superior to simple antithrombotic drug therapy, most patients are unable to receive timely percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and are treated with conventional triple antithrombotic therapy (aspirin, clopidogrel, low-molecular-weight heparin). Here, we evaluate the efficacy and safety of adding low-dose tirofiban to this regimen. Methods A tot...
